This word is not That word

Here are some more words to ponder...

Fancy=Like (I will definitely be keeping this word in my vocabulary! It's so proper!).
"Would you fancy a pudding?"

Pudding=Dessert
The health advisor told me to give Camden a "pudding" after his tea.

Tea=Dinner (some people call dinner, tea and others call afternoon tea, tea...gets a little confusing to me).

That's alright=You're welcome
You're welcome=thanks for not saying thank you, you idiot

This has confused me for a while and still throws me off! The other day I was waiting for a car to drive on to the main road before crossing the street with Camden, and he waved me on so I walked across. I didn't say anything to him and he shouted out the car "You're welcome!" I shouted back "I didn't ask you to stop"...oops...probably not the kindest response...

So I was chatting with my friend the other day and she was like, "I hate it when American's always say"you're welcome" (in an incredibly nasal voice I almost died laughing!"). I told her I hated when British people say "that's alright" super non chalant when you say thank you! haha!
What are your thoughts on the matter? Which do you think makes more sense??
